I'll see the Fort Worth zoo again. Maybe the Dallas zoo too. I'll write on my blog every day. Fortunately, it's possible to write on the blog and publish what you wrote on another day. So when I get back from Texas, I'll publish a bunch of days worth of blogs. That way, I won't have to write about what happened from memory, as I'll be writing it every day. But it won't be published till I get back home, so no one will know exactly when I'm out of state and not home. Not saying how long I'll be gone either.

Review of Book: Going Rogue by Sarah Palin

Non-fiction, autobiography, politics,

This book tells the life story of Sarah Palin. Born in 1964, she describes a childhood in rural Alaska that reminds one of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. When she was growing up, Sarah's family spent most of their free time outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, berry picking, running marathons, and other athletic activities. They heated the house with firewood. She had a good childhood, even though they lived a little bit primitive. They didn't have a lot of things that middle class kids from the lower 48 had, but they never went hungry, and they had everything they needed. There were lots of books and magazines for Sarah and her siblings to read. There was also a close community of family and friends. Her father was a coach at a local school, and her mother was the school secretary.

Then they moved to Wasilla, a small Alaskan town where they settled. The town slowly grew as the years went by. It was there that Sarah started attending the Assembly of God church. It taught her a faith that has stayed with her ever since. Then, in her senior year of high school, she met Todd Palin, who became her boyfriend, and eventually her husband.

In the years that followed she had five children, got elected as mayor of Wasilla, served on a couple of committees, and then got elected governor of Alaska. She was the youngest person and the first woman to be elected as Alaska's governor. She was a very good governor, with a 90% approval rating. She cut the state budget while increasing funding for education and social services. During this time she became pregnant with her 5 th child, and learned the baby she was carrying had Down syndrome. She and her husband decided against abortion. This was a reflection of their strong respect for the sanctity of life. When little Trig was born, Sarah and Todd saw that God had made him perfect, Down syndrome and all. In this way, Sarah became an admired role model for the pro-life cause. She walked the walk, faced a difficult pregnancy, did the pro-life thing, and was rewarded for it with the joy of parenting Trig.

Then she was asked to be the vice presidential pick for John McCain's political campaign. She said yes, and many chapters detail life on the campaign trail. Sarah respects John McCain a lot. But we see an inside view of a poorly run campaign. The McCain staff allowed some great campaign opportunities to slip by. Worse, at the end, some of the campaign staff made anonymous attacks on Sarah. She just moved on, not being the bitter or vengeful type.

When McCain didn't win, Sarah went back to Alaska, and to her job as governor. But it wasn't the same as before. She'd been in the national spotlight now. She was a pro-life, Christian, feminist. Back in the 1800s that wouldn't be so unusual. But in the mid twentieth century, secular, pro-abortion forces had taken over feminism, and they were still firmly in control of the majority of feminist groups in the early 21 st century. A pro-life, Christian, feminist was a threat, especially if she was very popular, as Sarah is. Sarah had to be destroyed. If not, she could run for president someday, and be elected. So the politics of personal destruction followed her. The stuff written in the press and on the internet was sickening. They attacked her kids too, even the baby. There were photo shopped pictures of the baby on the internet that made him look monstrous. These people really sunk low.

Her enemies flooded the state with frivolous ethics complaints. They knew that even though these complaints would be thrown out, it would cost Sarah more money than she could afford to defend herself, as the complaints continued to pour in. It also took time away from the business of governing to stop and deal with these things. Sarah, who did not want to be a lame duck governor and collect a paycheck without really helping the state, resigned as governor, so that the attacks would stop. You see that she did it out of love for her state.

The ironic thing is that Sarah put these ethics complaint procedures into place during her time as governor, in order to make government more accountable to the people. But she didn't foresee that it would be unfairly used against her. Hopefully, next time she gets in a position of power to get these rules into place, she will think about the rotten tricks people can pull. Then she'll put some safeguards in place, so that she, and others who govern after her, will be protected from false accusations and frivolous complaints. Live and learn!

This book is a great read. We get a charming autobiography of her life. It shows what goes on behind the scenes in politics, and how a decent, caring woman can govern well when she's given a chance. Thus it's a good argument for women in politics. The reader sees that the good guys don't win every round, but the story isn't over yet. I was left wishing Sarah Palin the best in her future career. If you're a Sarah Palin fan, this book is for you.

Sarah Palin's second book, 'America by Heart,' is coming out in November. You can pre-order it now.

Review of Book: Surrender All: Your Answer to Living With Peace, Power and Purpose by Joni Lamb

Non-Fiction: Autobiography, Christian Living, Inspirational

This book is written by Joni Lamb, wife of Marcus Lamb. She and her husband co-founded the Daystar Television Network, and are co-hosts of the show Celebration, which is Daystar's flagship show. Joni also hosts her own talk show, called Joni. Therefore I was familiar with Joni Lamb long before I got this book. Her persona is sweet, gentle, caring, and loving. She totally won me over long before she wrote anything.

This book is a delight to anyone who is a Joni fan. She talks about her life and the lives of those around her. The story starts with a little six year old girl who loses her temper and pushes her friend off a swing. When that girl runs into the house crying to her mother, the mother comes out and talks to young Joni. At first Joni was tight lipped about it. But when the other child's mom gently points out that Jesus sees everything she does and knows what happened there in the yard, Joni realizes that she is accountable to God for her actions. Joni confesses, and the other child's mother, in a continuing show of wisdom and grace leads Joni in a prayer, asking Christ to forgive her. This is a major turning point in Joni's life, setting her on a lifelong path of surrendering to God. Coming from a heathen home, I probably wouldn't have responded the same way at age six if someone had pointed out that Jesus sees everything I do. It certainly helped that Joni's parents were Christians, giving her a foundation that could help her understand that concept. But her friend's mother really started the commitment ball rolling.

Skip ahead about fourteen years. The little six year old girl is a twenty year old now. She's just broken up with her boyfriend, because he's not as interested in serving God as she is. She wanted to take her boyfriend to see an evangelist, because she thinks the evangelist will straighten him out. But her boyfriend refused to go see the evangelist. Joni and her boyfriend argue over it, and they break up. As he walks away from her for the last time, her now ex-boyfriend tells Joni that she can take her God and shove Him. That tells Joni all she needs to know about this guy. She gives it over in surrender to God after much prayer, crying, and misery over the break up. Turns out the evangelist that her boyfriend refused to see is single. Within a week, she was dating this evangelist. Long story short, he becomes her husband. He's just perfect for her. They have three children, and they've served the Lord together ever since they got married.

The autobiographical parts of this book are charming. We rejoice with Joni as she and her husband travel to the Holy Land, have their first baby, start their first TV station, and overcome challenges and setbacks along the way. We grieve with her when she gets betrayed by a friend, or when someone dies. She also writes about the people around her and we learn, lessons from their stories too.

But the main message of the book is that surrendering your life to God will bring blessings to you. She gives anecdotal stories of people who surrendered all to God and how it panned out for them. Surrendering all to God is not always easy, especially if your background makes trusting difficult. But this book helps you to see why and how it's a good idea, as well as giving suggestions on how to do it. I can't claim that I've actually done it yet, but I'm working on it.

Overall, it's a charming book with an important message. Definitely recommended reading.

Review of the Book: The Pagan Cross: A Look at the Unchristian Identity Religion. by D. J. Smith

Non-Fiction: Cults, Paganism, Religious Deception, Non-Christian groups, Racism and anti-Semitism.

This book talks about the neo-Nazi Identity religion. This is a brand a pseudo-Christian deception that is designed to lead people away from true Christianity, and exploit them for a racist agenda. While some people make false accusations of racism to anyone who disagrees with them, the Identity religion and it's adherents boast about their racism and anti-Semitism.

This book shows how unchristian this cult really is. It does this by comparing Biblical theology with Identity theology. Biblical quotes and the quotes of Identity preachers are put side by side to show the glaring difference between the two. This pattern goes on throughout the book. When the Identity preachers quote the Bible, they often twist it's meaning or redefine words to make it prove something deceptive to the reader. This is not proof of anything, but can be very deceiving. The book also shows how Pagan theology is interwoven into the Identity belief system, and gives specific examples of heathen traditions that Identity includes in its theology.

There is a chapter on crime and how the Identity movement is linked to criminal activity. This chapter shows how individuals Identity members get caught up in crime, even when they have no criminal past.

Jesus Christ is shown as the only answer to the problem of neo-Nazism, the only thing that can stop it. People reading this book are urged to accept Jesus into their heart and convert to Christianity.

This book arms people with the truth about this neo-Nazi group, and helps them resist the manipulative tactics Identity uses to recruit people. It gives suggestions for parents and community members to stop or thwart the activities of neo-Nazis in their communities.

It's also written in a very academic way, so that it can be used as a class textbook, if a professor is so inclined.

Book Review of Book: 'Queenie Peavy' by Robert Burch

Juvenile fiction: Ages 10 and up.

This book is great for teaching children to empathize with those who are a little raw around the edges, and the main character is definitely that. In a story set in rural depression era Georgia, thirteen year old Queenie struggles with poverty, peer abuse, loneliness, and the stigma of having a father who is in prison, as well as the temptation to go a delinquent way herself. The story is told from Queenie's point of view.

Queenie herself is a classic case of soft on the inside, hard on the outside. The book is also a tale of triumph. Queenie manages, against all odds, to steer her life on the correct path, as she learns to express her softer side. Neither of these two tasks is easy for a girl who has as much going against her as Queenie does.

The only drawback to this story (for me at least) is that there is no mention of the Lord in this book. Queenie manages to turn her life around without Jesus. At the time I read the book, though, I was being raised in a heathen home, so I probably wouldn't have seen the value of it if Queenie had found the Lord and gotten turned around that way.

Parents will appreciate that Queenie learns the value of following rules, as she learns the rules are a benefit to everyone. She starts the book as such a rascal, so her transformation is heartening.

A secular book, but a great, enriching story nevertheless.

I love God's word. If you read the Bible every day, you will begin to understand God's will for your life, and you'll become wise. His word is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path. All of Scripture is God breathed and good for teaching and correcting. It is comforting. Halleluah. Praise God.

His word shows us how we began as a species, and what happened after that. Then it shows how God dealt with HIs chosen people. It gives us rules to live by.

Then it shows us how we can NOT be good enough or come to God on our own. So God sent His Son to come as a man. Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, was born of a virgin, and did NOT have original sin. He lived a sinless life, and His teachings are meant to help us follow Him. He paid the price for our sins on the cross, so that we could be set free from sin and death. Then He rose from the grave the third day after His death. All you have to do to be saved is accept Christ and the sacrifice He made to save you, and you can go to heaven.

Getting saved is easy. But living a good Christian life is more complicated than that. This is why you need to read the Bible. It teaches you how God wants you to live. You find out what His laws are and what the consequences are of breaking those laws. God lays down rules for us to live by, not because He's an ogre who wants to spoil our fun, but because He wants to protect us from being hurt. If you live by His rules, your life will be much better, you will be blessed.

The younger you are when you start obeying Him, the less pain you'll have to go through in life. But don't give up trying to follow Him just because you're older. It's never too late to follow Him in your life. As long as there is breath, there is hope. The best reward for following Him comes after your death. You get to go to heaven and be with Jesus forever. In heaven there is no pain, or crying, and all your needs are met.

So accept Jesus, ask Him into your heart, and get saved today. Oh, and one more thing, don't forget to read your Bible.

I asked if the arsonists had been caught. The woman I spoke to on the phone said the persons responsible had been caught. I asked what the motive was. She said it was just some young people who were very drunk and out pulling pranks.

Although this is a very expensive prank, for both the center and for the pranksters (they are in a lot of legal trouble now), I'm grateful that my previous suspicions have been disproven. It wasn't some hard core pro-abort out to eliminate the competition for political or financial reasons. We can all breathe a sigh of relief that there were no racial or genocidal reasons either.

But the Apache people still need help rebuilding their center. Donations can be sent to the Living Hope Women's Center,

I thought it important to make this update and set the record straight, since the motive didn't turn out to be what I feared it might be.

Still No Flood in the Kent Valley

Still No Flood in the Kent Valley

There is still no flooding in the Kent valley. This is almost surprising, because we've had a lot of rain this year. In fact, I'm not only waiting for summer, I'm wondering where summer went. It's depressing to see so little sunshine. Hopefully the flood fears were a lot of hype. But it's better to be prepared and not have anything happen than to have something happen and not be prepared.

Big Deal Made Over Small Person

Big Deal Made Over Small Person

I couldn't believe it when I read that Randi Rhodes made a big deal over Michelle Bachman's size. She put on a big performance about it recently, calling Michelle a "freaking dwarf." Then she said something like, "It's always something with these girls."

What? Always something? I guess if you're always looking for something in somebody, you'll always find something.

Randi put on quite a performance where she commented that Michelle Bachman was about 4' 11." Well, so what? Big deal.
Then she got really dramatic when she said, "And maybe, maybe she weighs eighty pounds."

My reaction when I read that Michelle Bachman weighs about eighty pounds was, 'lucky her.' I bet obese women everywhere envy her for it. This would be especially so if they have set points that prevent their diets from working, or worse yet, cause their diets to backfire on them. Come on, really now. If you were given a choice, and could choose to have small body that weighed eighty pounds, or a big fat body that needs to lose eighty pounds, which would you choose? I think most women would choose the cute little eighty pound body. I know I would.

I know that Randi Rhodes was looking for something to criticize because she disagrees with Michelle's politics. If this is the best she can do, Michelle has it made. Randi must really be scrapping the bottom of the barrel for mud to sling if she has to come up with this.

I mean, really now. Aren't there any political or ideological arguments to make? So you have to make comments about people's size? That's the best you can do? Pathetic.
April 16, 2010
Well, it's mid April, and the Kent valley hasn't flooded yet. They've been working hard on the Howard-Hansen dam to make sure it doesn't. Hopefully it won't flood. But in the mean time, they have scared a lot of people. This sort of panic has economic consequences. People who own rental properties in the valley are having a hard time renting out their properties. Still, it's good to have disaster relief efforts in place, and evacuation routes ready on the roads, just in case.

I guess that a flood might still happen. There are several more years before the dam will be really up to snuff. We could have an extra rainy winter one of those years. (It hasn't helped that there was no snow this year, and all the precipitation fell as rain. Snow melts slowly, giving the ground more time to soak up the moisture. This helps prevent flooding.)

But it doesn't look like a flood is going to happen this year. I am blessed, in any event, to live on a hill. But I might still have to evacuate if power or water is cut off. Maybe I was sent to this town to help with disaster relief. Maybe not, if there's no disaster. Time will tell.
This time, I was among them because of the pre-game publicity about the ad. (Thanks for giving our side free publicity, pro-aborts.)

The pro-aborts were panicked that millions of people would see a pro-life ad and be inspired to not abort. That could threaten the profits of the abortion industry, which can't be tolerated. So they tried to stop it.

Now that the ad has been shown, I can't help but wonder what the fuss was about. The word "abortion" was never even used. The mother just calls him her miracle baby, and says, "I almost lost him several times." Then she says how glad she is to have him. Then her son hugs her. End of ad. Another ad has the son tackle her. She pops up and playfully scolds him for the interruption. The son says, "Sorry, mom," and "do you still worry about my health." To which the mom answers, "Of course, I'm a lot tougher than you," or words to that effect. The end, ad over.

I'm sitting there in TV land thinking, 'Wow, this is what all the fuss is about.' Now the pro-aborts have egg on their faces.

I would like to see an ad on next year's Super Bowl that really comes across heavily anti-abortion. Maybe a two minute one instead of a 30 second one. One where a woman tells how she regrets her abortion. Another woman tells how glad she is she resisted pressure to abort, and that gives a toll free number women can call for help if they're pregnant and need support to bring the baby to term. LIFE - THE BEST CHOICE. Let's see how NOW goes nuts about that. Hopefully by then they'll figure out that they don't have censorship rights in this society.
Heading for a Nazi state. My first fit on this blog.

This blog is titled Ceecee's Fun and Fits blog, meaning when I have fun I can tell you about it. Also when something upsets me, I can come to my blog and tell you about that too, or have a fit. Today I read an article on another website (copied and pasted below) that really upset me, and caused me to have a fit. So here goes my first fit on this blog.

It saddens me that this article hails from a city in Canada where I used to live. Edmonton, Alberta is a very nice city. They have an excellent University there, some sweet people, and some good churches. Unfortunately, it seems they also have a children's hospital where the doctors want to play God, and decide who lives and who dies. They don't think handicapped babies have the right to live, or that parents should have the right to demand that their child be given a chance. They want the right to decide which sick babies get killed, or are simply allowed to die from lack of care. It disgusts me that a country as civilized and enlightened as Canada could perpetuate this sickening violation of the human right to life for the disabled. Unfortunately, the U.S. isn't much better. We have cases like this here too.

The most sickening part of it is that the pro-death people are hypocrites about their hostility for the disabled. They want to kill them while claiming that their heartlessness in all done out of compassion. What a crock! They just don't think people who are "less than perfect" should be allowed to live.

These innocent ones are given a death sentence, and for what crime? The crime of being handicapped. It is interesting to know that Canada did not have a death penalty for criminal behavior when I was there. (I don't know whether this has changed since I returned to the U.S. I assume not.) Now, personally, I have very mixed feelings about the death penalty. But if a criminal is executed, at least they had a trial, and were convicted of a crime. For a sick baby, there is no trial, no conviction for any crime, and no appeal, at least that's what the hospital wants. Just execution. All for the crime of having a handicap. So if you murder someone in Canada, they won't execute you. But if you have a handicap, there are no guarantees you will be allowed to keep living.

Check out the story of Turner Kersey, about 18 paragraphs down in the article. He was born premature and brain damaged at birth. Doctors said he would be a "vegetable" and should be just allowed to die. The parents fought. The doctors fought back, and fortunately for Turner, the doctors lost. Today Turner is three years old and doing all the things the doctors said he wouldn't do; walk, talk, sing, count, etc. But if the doctors had had their way, he would have never had the chance.

Please God, raise up some influential people to fight for the rights of the disabled to live.

Baby Isaiah’s Case Part of a National Trend Say Advocates for the Disabled

Wednesday January 20, 2010

By Patrick B. Craine
EDMONTON, Alberta, January 20, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – While Isaac and Rebecka May, the Canadian couple who are fighting for their new-born baby’s life, are awaiting a January 27th judgment on their petition for a 90-day injunction against their hospital's order to remove their baby Isaiah's ventilator, some advocates for the disabled are saying that what the May’s are experiencing is shockingly common in Canada.

According to Sam Sansalone, father of Katya Sansalone, who was born 8 years ago with full trisomy 13, in Canada “profoundly disabled kids are routinely – and intentionally – not treated with life-saving intervention.” Sansalone serves as co-chair of the Advisory Committee of Family to Family Connections at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, a family-centered care initiative recently launched in Southern Alberta.

He said that “the dynamic that we had to fight became very quickly and firmly entrenched as soon as we had a genetic diagnosis.” “The clear mandate, at least at that time, was that you don't save these disabled children's lives,” he continued. “You allow them to die – even though the needed interventions are exactly the same as would routinely and unquestionably be given to quote-unquote normal children.”

Katya Sansalone was born with a cardiac condition that is associated with her chromosomal defect. The Sansalones fought hard with their hospital, the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, to have them perform the cardiac surgery that Katya needed.

The hospital initially refused to do the surgery, he said, but “they didn't make it look that way.” “Initially they said we had a choice, and then they proceeded with trying to influence that choice by giving us false information about the range of outcomes,” he continued.

Sansalone attributed their success in part to the fact that his wife is a doctor, which helped the family to research Katya's condition. This research allowed them to be “not so easily fooled by this kind of misinformation.”

Sansalone said the hospital “actually tried to hide medical literature from me.” He saw that on one occasion the neonatologist had a key study on a clipboard that actually dispelled myths about Katya's condition that the hospital had perpetuated, but the doctor held the study out as though it supported their position. “When I tried to read it, the neonatologist doctor actually pulled it away from my view,” he said.

Sansalone believes their experience might have some parallels to what the Mays are now going through with the Stollery Children's Hospital. “I hear that they were being denied ... regular access to the patient chart – reading it and seeing the imaging.”

“That is completely illegal, and it is entirely in the parents' right to have as much access as they need to become informed,” he said. “When you have that parental scrutiny of the chart, [the hospital staff's] behaviour, because it will be more scrutinized, will be in better form. ... Terrible things are done behind parents' backs.”

Sansalone pointed out the case of baby Annie Farlow, who also had trisomy 13, but died five years ago at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

In an September-October 2009 article for the prestigious Hastings Center Report, Annie's mother Barbara told the story of how she and her husband were misinformed and deceived by doctors who she says were not interested in giving Annie the care she needed to survive.

Annie was born especially healthy for her condition, but on her 80th day she suffered a respiratory crash. Based on the advice of their pediatrician and hospital staff, the Farlows agreed to not have Annie intubated, and she died shortly thereafter.

Barbara writes about how she was suspicious about certain irregularities in the events leading up to Annie's death. “Although I felt guilty, ashamed, and ungrateful to be so suspicious, I ordered Annie’s medical records to look at the events of her last hours,” she says.

“I was shocked by what we found.”

The intensive care specialist, she discovered, had ordered that Annie not be resuscitated hours before they had consented. Further, they had not been informed that even from the fifth day of her life, there were signs that Annie's condition was deteriorating. Additionally, a pulmonologist had ordered tests for a dangerous condition, which were cancelled.

“To this day, it is unclear to us whether our daughter’s death was preventable or inevitable,” she wrote. “In either case, Annie had suffered terribly and unnecessarily as she slowly asphyxiated to death. The lack of transparency in the treatment plan ensured that she received neither appropriate lifesaving care nor effective palliation.”

CTV Edmonton reported yesterday on another similar case to Baby Isaiah's, in which the parents were only successful in saving their baby after a fight with medical staff.

Turner Kersey was born three years ago, 14 weeks prematurely, with severe brain damage due to a lack of oxygen during birth. Doctors told his family that he would be vegetative for the rest of his life, and pressured them to take him off life support.

"It was a large fight on our part in order to have our voices heard," said Brandy Kersey, Turner's mother. They said "that we should take him off life support ... that we should let life take its course.”

The Kerseys were successful in obtaining the necessary surgery for Turner, and now, says Brandy, "He's doing everything they said he wouldn't. He walks, he talks, he dances, he sings, he counts to 20."

Dr. Paul Byrne, a neonatologist with nearly fifty years of experience, who has been advising Isaac and Rebecka, told LifeSiteNews yesterday how Stollery Children's Hospital has refused to give baby Isaiah appropriate and standard care.

Besides putting Isaiah on a ventilator, he said the doctors have not conducted blood tests or blood counts, and that the hospital has refused to do a tracheotomy, which would be standard in Isaiah's case, despite Isaac and Rebecka's pleading.

“I have a hard time believing how all of this is going on, but on the other hand, I don't have [a] hard time ... in the sense that these things are going on much more commonly than anybody ever realizes,” he said.

Mark Pickup, an advocate for disability issues who has been involved in the Mays' case, urged the hospital to respect the parents' desire to preserve Isaiah's life.

“We must always make decisions that default toward life,” he said. “The parents are not in favour of the hospital's actions here, and I would urge the hospital to not make that decision to remove the respirator. Allow other physicians to take a look at this case. There may be a way out that's life-affirming, not life-denying.”

See the Facebook group in support of Baby Isaiah: Prayers for Baby Isaiah James here.

See the Facebook group seeking justice for Annie Farlow: Justice for Annie here.

Contact Information:

Stollery Children's Hospital
8440 112 Street Northwest
Edmonton, AB T6G 2B7
General Phone Line: (780) 407-8822

Alberta Health Services - Complaints
Mail Slot 57
11111 Jasper Avenue
Edmonton, Alberta T5K 0L4
Toll-free: 1-877-753-2170
Telephone: 780-342-8080
Fax: 1-877-871-4340

Dr. Ernest Z.
It is worth noting that Nazi Germany didn't become what it was all at once. People wonder how the Nazis could have been so cruel, inhumane, and barbaric. How could they overcome their inhibitions against killing and murder all those people in the holocaust?
What many people don't realize is that Germany had been killing handicapped people--whose lives weren't considered to be worth living--for a long time before Hitler came to power.

Doctors in hospitals and institutions had been killing handicapped children (and sometimes adults) for decades. At first it was only the most severely handicapped. But as time went on, the excuses for killing got pettier and pettier. By the time Hitler came on the scene, they were killing children for being "difficult to educate," or for having "poorly formed ears." It's always a slippery slope. Or perhaps the killers get addicted to the God-like power of being able to decide who lives and who dies. They need more and more killing to get their fix.

In any event, when the Nazis came to power, the German people were already acclimated to the idea that some human life was not worth living, and shouldn't be given a chance. The Nazis didn't have to break down the German people's inhibition against killing, because that job had already been done. It was simply a matter of adding Jews and Gypsies to an already existing list; much easier than starting from scratch and breaking down a culture's pro-life inhibitions. If you want to see where all this acceptance of killing the handicapped leads to, just pick up a history book and read about Nazi Germany.

Don't be so proud as to think it can't happen here in the U.S. or Canada.

Arson fire at Crisis Pregnancy Center

Arson Fire at Crisis Pregnancy Center on Apache Reservation

There was an arson fire at a Crisis Pregnancy Center in Eastern Arizona on December 20, 2009. While the abortion industry tries to portray all pro-lifers as terrorists (totally unfair), the fire shows that the pro-abortion camp is also very capable of terrorism. Don't look for the mainstream media to report on this fire. They are too busy trying to sell the public on the lie that all pro-lifers are violent and evil and that all pro-abortion people are gentle, non-violent heroes. This act of domestic terrorism proves that often the very opposite is true.

The motives for the arson are probably political and economic. Politically, the arsonists probably just didn't like pro-life people. Since it's pro-life people who usually found and run Crisis Pregnancy Centers, they naturally want to target them. So they go on the attack, trying to silence and shut down people they don't agree with. The economic angle is that Crisis Pregnancy Centers siphon customers away from abortion clinics, decreasing the number of customers and the profits for the abortionists. The fire may have simply been an effort to eliminate the competition. They don't want women to have alternatives to abortion. Too much of that and fewer women will choose abortions, cutting into the abortion clinic's profits.

If you think rank economics is a bad reason, there may be a more sinister motive. This Crisis Pregnancy Center is located on an Apache Indian reservation. For genocidal bigots, helping Native women have healthy pregnancies and bring their babies to term is a major no-no. Such people would want the Apache women to abort all of their babies.

The Apache people have a strongly pro-life culture, and their Crisis Pregnancy Center is a central part of their community. They even named their Crisis Pregnancy Center the Living Hope Women's Center. A strongly pro-life culture on a Native American Indian reservation, combined with a Crisis Pregnancy Center to carry out that pro-life culture sets the genocidal cause back years.

The Apache people need help rebuilding their center. They are able to do the physical labor themselves, but they need money to rebuild.
A year and a half ago, I moved to Kent, a small town about 20 or 30 miles outside of Seattle. The rents are cheaper there. But it's hard sometimes to remember that I'm not in Seattle anymore. I tend to think of Kent as being a part of Seattle, and it's not.

We are worried about flooding now. Apparently the Green River is nearby. There is a dam on that river which is getting old and decrepit. It's called the Howard Hansen dam. If there is a lot of rain this winter, they will have to let more water out than usual, to prevent the damn from breaking. But this could cause flooding. If they don't let extra water out, the dam could break and then the floods would be worse. It's going to take several years to fix what's wrong with the dam. This means the Kent valley could flood this winter, and in the years to follow as well. Not fun. Lots of evacuations.

I am better off than most of the people who live in Kent. I live up on a hill, about 4/5 of the way up. Plus my apartment is on the third floor. So I'm not likely to be flooded out. But I might still have to evacuate. There are secondary disasters in these scenarios. In this case that means power outages, sewer back ups, and contaminated tap water. Any of these things will make me evacuate.

When I go to community meetings where these things are discussed, it makes me wish that I'd moved to Kenmore instead. (Kenmore is a small town just north of Seattle.)

Yesterday when I was driving in my car, I saw signs that said "Evacuation Route," with arrows pointing to where people should go. Those signs weren't there the last time I'd driven on this street. The mayor of Kent is active in disaster preparedness. Maybe that's why these signs are going up early, before the winter hits.

Does it seem out of place to talk about an impending disaster and then show you a doll advertisement? Buy a twin doll (or some candy, or Starbucks) advertised here, if you want to help me financially.

On the Way Home

I enjoyed the train ride that night and slept well.

The next day the train pulled into Chicago. I got off, but I forgot my book bag. I just didn't see it. There are so many things to carry that it's easy to forget one thing in the chaos of everybody getting off the train.

When I got to my Chicago hotel room, I noticed that it was missing and headed back to the train station to look for it. I wondered if they had a lost and found? I checked on that. That book bag had a lot of important notes, books, and other stuff in it. Most of it wasn't important to anybody except me. That's something in my favor. It wasn't as likely to get stolen. Now my laptop I was worried about, because those are a prime target for thieves. But my book bag? Nobody wants it--except me. I was upset to be without it. I walked all the way back to the train station, in a strange town, going on nothing but my sense of direction (good fortunately) and a crudely drawn map the hotel staff gave me. I was in a hurry and feeling guilty about passing up a bag lady's cup. I got to the train station and they directed me to a certain office. I was told the lost and found was closed and I'd have to come back in the morning. I was going to do that anyway, to catch a train.

I went back to my hotel room, very dejected and upset. Lousy ending to a good vacation. I called the Daystar Ministries prayer line and a lady answered the phone. I told her that I was returning from the Refreshing Times Conference in Fort Worth. I said that I'd just gotten off the Amtrak train in Chicago, and had lost my book bag on an overnight layover there. I told her what was in it and how I wanted it back. She assured me that God knew exactly where my book bag was, and we prayed about it. We prayed that God would send that book bag right back to me, supernaturally if need be.

The next morning I was up and off to the train station. I went back to the same office I'd been in the evening before (some sort of passenger service office). The lady told me that the person who ran the Lost and Found office was on vacation. I was upset. But they said that they would look in the back and see if it was there. They went in the back and then said it wasn't there. I went away, ate something, and then came back. They still said it wasn't there. I whined and complained. I hate to make a pest of myself, but sometimes it's the only way to undo your disasters. I asked if I could go in the back with them and see for myself, as I figured that I could recognize my stuff better than anybody else could. They said no, only employees are allowed back there.

I kept describing the thing to them and they said no, they hadn't seen it. Then I went out to the train tracks to talk to somebody about whether it was found on the Texas Eagle train. One black man tried to help me, calling out to the train on a phone. But in the end he sent me back to the same passenger service office where I was before.

So I went back there. I figured even if they didn't have my item, it might be therapeutic for me to whine about it, and maybe get some sympathy (if I could whine without being too obnoxious, quite a tightrope walk). I did this and described the item to the lady behind the desk. I had already described it several times before, but people would describe it back to me wrong.

Finally the woman said, "Wait a minute. What's your name?' I told her my name and she asked if I'd put an Amtrak name tag on it. I said I had. She said, " Wait here. I think I might be able to help you." She went back in the back room and came out carrying my book bag.

"That's it!" I squealed. She gave it to me and said that someone had brought it in from the train yard that morning. "Thank you, thank you, thank you." I said.

Our prayers were answered.

I gathered all my stuff together and counted the number of items I had. Two suitcases, an overnight bag, my book bag, a back pack, and a purse. Six items in all. Seven if you count the cell phone case, but that was carried in my back pack. So only six items to keep track of. I counted them all constantly while waiting for my train, to make sure they were all there. Then I made sure all six items were with me, or at least in my sight, at all times. I didn't want to allow any of my things to grow legs and walk away. Hauling six large items to the ladies room is no small feat, but I didn't see any other way. Meanwhile I prayed that there would be no more disasters or crisis situations on the remainder of this trip.

It's important to eat lunch in the train station, since the Empire Builder train to Seattle, leaves Chicago too late in the afternoon to serve lunch. So I ate before the train left.

Then I got on the train for the last leg of the journey home. The train ride is half the fun. After counting all my stuff again, I settled into my roomette, and enjoyed looking out the window at the constantly changing scenery. The first night out, I slept well. I enjoyed the prairies and all the beauty it has to offer. I saw groups of pronghorn antelope. They were cool. Some of the train staff tell me that when the train passes through Glacier National Park, they have seen bears. Cool, I'd like to see a bear. But I don't get to see one. (Didn't pray about it though.) Oh well, I've seen bears in zoos. Nobody will admit to seeing a bigfoot. OK, give it up, Ceecee. It's not going to happen this trip.

Just before the second night, we entered the Rocky Mountains of Montana. It's beautiful. (No bigfoots anywhere within sight of the train though.) I didn't sleep well that night. The train went around the mountain curves real fast, startling me awake. No sooner would I drift off to sleep, when the train would zip around a curve, and the centrifugal force would startle me awake. I seem to remember this same problem the first night coming out. Now I'm having it the last night going back.

Then before I know it, I'm back in Seattle. Then my shuttle ride comes to pick me up, and I'm back in Kent (a small town outside of Seattle), where I live.

I deliberately used up or gave away all my food before I left for this trip. I didn't want to come home to deal with rotten food that had been sitting around two weeks while I was gone. So now I come home to an empty refrigerator, and I have to go grocery shopping to get some food in the house.

I also called Daystar Ministries and give them a praise report about finding my book bag. God really does answer prayer. Take note people. It looked really hopeless for a while there. But the Lord God came through.

Travel advice:

1. Count your items, bags, purses, suitcases, backpacks, etc. Make note of the number and recount frequently to make sure you have everything, especially when getting on or off the train (or bus, plane, car, taxi, or whatever you're traveling in).

2. If you can, put tags on ALL of your items with your name, address, and phone number on it. That way if you lose it, people will have an easier time getting it back to you.

3. Don't forget to pray. You're more vulnerable when away from familiar surroundings, so you need to rely on God's protection more.

I was a little sad, because I was having fun here in Texas, but it was time to go home. My train was scheduled to leave at 2:20 pm. The car rental place was right next to the train station. For me, this was very convenient. It meant I could drop off my rental car and go right to the train. I made sure to get there early. That's always a good idea when you're catching a train or plane.

But I hadn't counted on the car rental place being closed on Sunday. You'd think they'd be open seven days a week, especially being right next to the train station and catching the tourist trade like they do. Why, they practically share the same building with the train station. Don't they know people travel seven days a week? To make matters worse, they don't have an after hours key drop or any other clue about how to turn the car in today. My train leaves in an hour and a half. That's how much time I have to figure out how to solve this problem.

I went into the train station to look for the information desk. Maybe they would have some clue about this predicament. Surely I wasn't the first person this had happened to. I was dismayed to discover the information desk is also closed on Sundays. Now what?

Ohhhhh, I wish I had scheduled my leaving for a weekday. Next time I come, I'll have to remember that. Not only give myself time to comfortably finish whatever might be happening for me at the Refreshing Times Conference, but also plan to leave on a weekday, so that if I need services or help on my last day in Texas, it will be open and available.

I went over to the ticket window to talk to the train employees. But they had a weekend skeleton crew that was very busy, and they didn't want the extra bother of my crisis. However, I keep pestering them and they finally give me a toll free number to call the car rental company's national customer service. I pull out my cell phone, dial the number, and pray it isn't closed on Sundays.

A woman answers the phone. I explain the situation and she helps me. Thank goodness. After explaining that there's no key drop or anything like that, she tells me that I can leave the keys in the glove compartment and call the car rental office from the train tomorrow when they're open. I thank her, and get busy removing my stuff from the car, so I can be ready for the train.

Then I wait around for a short time until my train comes. This gives me time to calm down a bit. Once I'm on the train, I feel better. Things are back on schedule for me.

I settle into my roomette, and enjoy looking out the window. I've lost hope of seeing a bigfoot out the train window. Bigfoots don't like trains I'm told. The noise trains make bothers their ears, especially the sound of the whistle. Oh well, there's lots of other things to see out the window. It'll be a long time before we get to the mountainous wilderness places anyway, but I'm already thinking of it. There is a feeling of peace. A new crisis is awaiting me in Chicago. But for now, I'm relaxing.

Later that evening, after dinner, the train crosses the border into Arkansas. I am really leaving Texas now.

Goodbye Texas,
I'll see you again.
I don't know when.

Oh, my gosh, I never thought that leaving Texas would make me feel poetic. After I finished swimming, it was a rush to get the chlorine washed out of my hair, get dried off, and get dinner eaten, so I can get there in time. Rush to the registration desk. I see faces I recognize, but I know they don't recognize me.

We went to the auditorium and there was a lot of singing and worship music. We had a time of worship, very cool. The Daystar singers sang and I liked it. But no worship on this earth is going to be like what we will have in heaven. We can't even imagine what worship will be like in heaven. Even the best on earth is puny compared to what we'll have in heaven.

During the intermission, I was standing by the door to the auditorium and struck up a conversation with another conference goer. I said that I recognized people and that I wanted to say hi to them, but realized they didn't know me. She said that I should just go up and say hi, and the Daystar singers were friendly. Then the door opened and Leann came through the door.

I said, "Oh wow, there's Leann."
My new friend said, "Come on, Let's go meet her."
I wanted to, but felt shy.
"I'll go with you."

So we went over to her and Brenda said hello to Leann and then she said, "Cecilia wants to hug you."
For a little minute I almost panicked. Although I love hugs, I had not told my new friend this. How would this pan out? If Leann didn't want a hug, then I would be on the spot, big time.
Fortunately for me, Leann put her arms out. I breathed a sigh of relief, dropped my purse and cell phone case, so they wouldn't get in the way, and had a bear hug with Leann. What a relief. Leann is a total sweetheart. I'm still friends with the gal who introduced me to Leann.

After that I did find out that the Daystar singers like to chat with the other concert goers. I said hello and had chats with Sharon, Eddie, Cindy, Kendra, Benita, and most of the others. They are all sweet. I adore having positive interactions with people. I don't take it for granted.

Everybody I met at the conference, and at the hotel where the conference was held, was very nice to me. In fact, everybody I met in Texas was nice to me, except for a certain truck driver, and I didn't actually meet him.

At the end of the evening, my new friend said that she, and some of her room mates who came with her, were going out to eat. She asked if I wanted to come with her. Then I was sorry that I'd eaten before the evenings activities. I was too full to go out to eat.

Well, we all went out for lunch the next day. That took up most of the afternoon. It was hot and we all walked, trying to find a deli that supposedly was two blocks away. It turned out that it was either hidden, or out of business. We walked a few more blocks, and finally found a coffee shop. I didn't like the walking, because it was hot. Then we started back. We took a shuttle part of the way back to the hotel. Then there was the evening's music and worship. Very nice. Peace. Very, very late, we ate dinner. Then Brenda and I went up, first to her room, then to mine. We gave each other little gifts and exchanged phone numbers and e-mail addresses. We wanted to do it that night, because we didn't know if we'd see each other the next day.

The next day Rhonda Davis preached and then she ministered among the people. I got slain in the spirit. No, I did not lose consciousness. I've heard it's a bad thing when you lose consciousness while being slain in the spirit thing. So I'm glad I've stayed conscious every time in my life that I've been slain in the spirit.

The conference ended that day at noon. Some people had to rush out of there to catch planes. I'd thought of that when I'd planned this trip. I'd decided that I didn't want to rush out like that, so I planned to catch my train the next day. If there was something going on that I didn't want to interrupt, I'd get to participate comfortably. But as time passes, everybody files out. (No I didn't see Brenda that day. It was wise of us to exchange numbers and gifts the night before.)

I went back to my room and got ready to go out. Since I had one more day here, I figured it would give me another chance to do the tourist thing. I went down to the hotel lobby and people were leaving, checking out, etc. Marcus Lamb was standing there. I don't know if he was waiting for Joni or what (probably). I struck up a conversation with him and he said that they'd be coming to Casey Treat's church soon. I was glad to hear this, as it's close to where I live. He didn't know when, but I should keep posted on Daystar to see when it would be.
He also said that the Daystar people only go where they are invited. OK, now I know what determines where they go. I'm glad they're coming to my neighborhood.

I chatted with a few other Daystar people who were standing around. Then I left to go to the Dallas World Aquarium. I looked at the directions the hotel staff had given me. It was farther away than I expected, but by the time I realized that, it was too late to turn back. I was glad I chose the aquarium. It was cooler in there than the zoo. There were some animals you wouldn't expect at an aquarium, such as monkeys, snakes, spiders, and bats. My favorite creatures there were the South American giant river otters. The pygmy marmosets were a close second. The otters were playful, and the marmosets were just cute. Plus it was all indoors, and nice and cool, unlike the zoo.

I knew that the next day, I'd have to catch a train to go back home. This vacation is ending way too soon. So this Aquarium trip is my last hurrah in Texas.
